<description>My irony du jour: despite people mentioning Andrew Bird to me for years, I never actually heard his music until we saw him open for the Magnetic Fields last year ... and seeing Magnetic Fields perform most of "i" live was the key to falling in love with songs on that record despite not caring so much for the arrangement/production of some of it. YM will probably V.</description>

<description>D-- I think my M doesn't V very much from yours regarding the production on 'i'. In fact, I think I feel the same way about the production/arrangement of most of their stuff. I feel like I talked about this at some point on this blog.... Yes, I did, here: (http://realfake.org/blog/archives/000050.html), after reading some things Stephen Merritt wrote in the NYT about Morrissey's recent album.

Anyway, I do agree that there are very good songs on 'i', my favorites being "It's Only Time" (cause I'm pretty cheesy under this macho exterior) and "I Don't Believe You" (cause any pop song that starts off with "So you quote love unquote me" is pretty hard for me not to love). You know, maybe it's not even the production or arrangement, maybe it's just the performance?

Also, I think we were at the same show; it's the only time I've seen Andrew Bird live. I'm reminded that I was also evangelizing him after that show. (http://realfake.org/blog/archives/000062.html)
