There’s something fishy about the whole idea of “Jersey Mike’s Subs”.

Like it’s supposed to convey that these are some kind of authentically New Jerseyan sub shop. But if you’re from a place you don’t use it as your nickname if you’re actually there, right?

Like nobody on the North Shore in Massachusetts would call their shop “Massachusetts Nick’s House of Roast Beef.” They just call it “Nick’s House of Roast Beef”.

And it turns out “Jersey Mike” admits to this fake-ish appeal to authenticity on their “about” page.

And the other thing– since when has New Jersey been known for subs? Maybe just some reflected glory from Philadelphia on the other side of the Delaware river, but that’s it.
